Arrival at Strawfire is through the Tsumiki Lounge, an immersive space designed to reflect harvest time during a full moon. The main dining room opens to reveal the feature grill centre stage, and soft golden drapery across ceilings symbolise the dancing flames. The restaurant’s interior design, artisan Kumiko panels and furnishings will transport you into a world of Warayaki dining.

The Toyama private dining room exemplifies Japanese artistry and craftsmanship. Accommodating up to 18 guests, it boasts a dramatic centrepiece: a 7.3-meter, 830-kilogram sacred Shimenawa rope -- the largest of its kind ever produced.

Handcrafted by Nawawaseya in Toyama, Japan, the Shimenawa holds deep cultural significance, traditionally marking sacred spaces and serving as a powerful emblem of protection.

From the days depicting Kyoto as the capital of Japan to scenes of farming and rural life during the Edo and Meiji periods, the hand-painted silk wall and ceiling covering will tell a story that’ll take you back in time – encouraging conversations amongst guests and contemplation between servings.

Under the Shimenawa is a solid plank with a live edge, creating a juxtaposition between the perfect symmetry of the space and the natural beauty of the dining table material. A handwoven tip sheer, cut and loop pile carpet with silk accents in a spectrum of greens and gold delineates Japanese rice fields and hillside farms.
