LOUVRE COUTURE. Objets d’art, objets de mode
From 24 January to 21 July 2025, the Louvre Museum in Paris presents Art and Fashion: Statement Piece. Since Cézanne’s time, the Louvre has been an endless source of inspiration, not only for art but also for fashion. Research and monographs increasingly trace fashion’s aesthetic lineage, revealing not just radical innovations or seasonal shifts but also deep historical echoes and influences. The connections between fashion and art are vast, woven through the Louvre’s collections, its reflection of evolving tastes, and the enduring dialogue between past and present.
This exhibition explores decorative styles, craftsmanship, and ornamentation within the Department of Decorative Arts, where textiles are ever-present, mainly in tapestries and décor rather than clothing. By placing fashion within this artistic context, it highlights how designers draw from centuries of artistry, technique, and ornamentation to shape contemporary creations.
By bridging art history and fashion through ancestral techniques, visual culture, and curated references, Louvre Couture offers a fresh perspective on the decorative arts through the lens of contemporary fashion design.
